So, here’s the story. Kitschy Crap evolved out of accumulating way too much crap over the years and no where to put it... plain and simple. As for the name, well, I love kitsch, kitschy stuff, and crap seems to be my favorite word. The merger of the two was inevitable. It just stuck and it's quite fitting. My accumulated crap either sits in the garage or storage unit for so long I forget it's there or what I have. I started selling on Craigslist so much that it just made more sense to put together my own website *please see disclaimer*. I also made the decision to try my hand at being a vendor.
As my pilot show, I ventured out and got a booth at the City-wide Garage Sale in Austin this past November. I had a ball! It was a great experience as far as selling my goodies... got to meet a lot of awesome people and network with some very cool dealers. I also picked up a few oddities from the other dealers- like a Victorian coffin and some really awesome wooden foundry molds. What can I say??? If it's weird, odd, neat-o, tacky, vintage, and yes, kitschy stuff it will find it's way to me.
Aside from collecting crap, I love rescuing, recycling, and re-purposing the crap I find. My husband calls it polishing turds. I guess I am a professional turd polisher. I love furniture projects, but one of my biggest pet peeves is to see good wood gone bad, i.e., someone left it outside, let their kids carve on it like a Thanksgiving turkey, tried to paint it (badly, I might add), used it instead of an ashtray, let their dog gnaw on it, used it to barricade the door to hold off the hoard of brain eating zombies, etc… It can be resurrected if it has good bones.
*Disclaimer* This is my first website. I know it is plain and generic right now. I am still figuring out how everything works. I would rather it be plain and simple than crammed full of useless and irritating distractions. I am in the process of setting up the site and store and revising on top of that. Have mercy on me and please be patient. But, if you have any suggestions as far as the flow of the site or store don't hesitate to contact me. I am not afraid of constructive criticism... just don't be a jerk. I just want a site that is easy to navigate and makes sense.
